John Sherman Clark, 84, returned to his Heavenly Father, August 12, 2018 at the Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio. John was born on August 27, 1933 at home in LaRue, Ohio to Clifford Seth Dutton Clark (1898-1985) and Rosa Mae Vansickle Clark (1900-1991). John loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and was an avid reader of the Bible among other good books. He was an active member of the Kensington Place Church of the Nazarene in Marion and also a long-time member of the Caledonia Church of Christ. He enjoyed sharing the Gospel with whoever would listen. He was a resilient person who had an exceptional work ethic. From the time he was a young teenager he would do any odd job to earn money. He graduated from LaRue High School. He joined the Navy in 1953 during the Korean Conflict and served for four years, shipping out of Norfolk, Virginia and Elizabeth City, North Carolina. He was employed with the United States Postal Service from which he retired in 1998 after 34 years of service. In 1970, he married the love of his life, Sherrie Straw of Caledonia who preceded him in death on May 13, 2010. He is survived by his sons, Eric (Andrea) Clark of Caledonia, Bobby Clark of Bellefontaine, daughters, Vanessa Butz of New Bloomington, Sarah (Jeremy) Wright of Marion, Laura (Paul) Granger of Piedmont, SC, Turia (Dennis) Day of Port Charlotte, FL (from a previous marriage), fifteen grandchildren, one great grandchild, brothers, Ray Clark of LaRue and Gary Clark of Kenton. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters and their spouses, Eva Kathryn Clark Cole (Wilson), Leona Fern (Fern) Clark Redmon (James), Walter Clark, David Clifford Clark Sr (Lola), Ethel Lavon Clark Miller (Chester), Willis Franklin Clark Sr. (JoAnn), and Margaret Ann Clark Gallant (Richard), and sister-in-law Sandra Draper Clark (wife of brother Gary). Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 18th at 10:30 at Caledonia Cemetery with Pastor Todd Risser officiating. Friends may call at the Timson & Melroy Funeral Home in Caledonia Friday, August 17th from 5 to 8 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kobacker House.
