Betty Jo Ann Kitts, affectionately known as "Beeg" or "BJ" to many, passed away on September 1, 2026 at the age of 54 in the UF Spanish Plaines Hospital in Florida. She was born May 26, 1972 in Marion, Ohio as the daughter of the late Roy and LaDonna Murphy (Brookes), her mother survives her at home. She married the love of her life Chad Kitts, September 8th, 2001 and he preceded her in death July 27th, 2019. They are reunited once again. She will be remembered as a friendly woman whose warmth and easy presence made others feel welcome. A homebody at heart, BJ found her greatest happiness in the simple and lasting joys of family, familiar places, and time shared with the people she loved most.

BJ was a 1990 graduate of River Valley, and in 2024 she completed her studies at Ultimate Medical Academy for Medical Assistant. She worked for many years as a Customer Service Representative for Verizon, a role that reflected her ability to connect with others and serve them with patience and care. She was their top representative and was awarded with many trips and perks. Her life was marked by the things that brought her genuine delight. She loved spending time with her grandkids and especially treasured fishing with them, creating memories that will remain dear to those who shared those days. She loved her children more than anything. She would call her son Canyon every day while he was driving his semi to check on him. These conversations were cherished by both mother and son. She loved the beach, swimming, and deep sea fishing, and she also enjoyed boating. BJ was an enthusiastic OSU football fan and a Cleveland Browns fan. She loved her dogs, especially Dresden, who passed away before her. She enjoyed shopping and cherished spending time with her mom, moments that spoke to the closeness of their bond and the importance of family in her life.

BJ leaves behind a loving family who will carry her memory forward with affection and gratitude. She is survived by her mother, LaDonna Murphy; sons, Slade Murphy and Canyon (Kayla) Hickman; grandchildren, Jade, Maverick and Riggins, sister, Farrah (Jerry) Hatfield; special niece and nephew, Aspen and Trace, mother-in-law, Carol Kitts; sister-in-law, Kacey Kitts; brother-in-law, Ryan (Jenny) Kitts. In each of these relationships, BJ’s love, companionship, and familiar presence formed a part of daily life that will be deeply missed and long remembered.

Visitation for BJ will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Timson & Melroy Funeral Home, funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Mike Sayre officiating. A celebration of life will also be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Sunny Acres Barn “Party Barn".

Betty’s life was one of devotion to family, enjoyment of life’s everyday blessings, and affection freely given. She will be remembered in the laughter of grandchildren, in days spent on the water, in the excitement of a game well played, and in the quiet comfort of home. Her memory will remain a cherished part of all who knew and loved her.

The Timson & Melroy Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Betty BJ Kitts.
