David "Dave" Duane Dutton, age 72, of Edison, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on August 20, 2026, at the OSU Wexner Medical Center. He was born on October 7, 1953, in Marion, Ohio as the son of the late Daymon and Estella (Voss) Dutton. Dave was a proud graduate of River Valley’s Class of 1972—a foundation that provided him lifelong friends and strong values. Noted for his unwavering work ethic, Dave was employed as a forklift operator at Quaker Oats from 1977-1990 when they closed and then at Marion Industrial Center for over twenty years. His commitment to his profession was exceptional; he was known to never miss a day of work or call in sick, earning him the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike.

Beyond his career, Dave will be remembered for his infectious laughter and remarkable sense of humor. A true jokester, he always found ways to lighten any moment and make those around him feel joy. Despite his high-spirited wit, Dave was also a homebody who cherished the simple comforts of life and the warmth of his family.

Dave's passions were many and meaningful. He loved his dogs deeply and took great pleasure in their companionship. Family gatherings, whether at home or camping at Jellystone Park in Mansfield, brought him immense happiness. He also relished serene days spent fishing in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, appreciating nature and the quiet moments it offered. A loyal fan of OSU football, Dave shared in the collective excitement of game days. In his younger years, Dave was an avid boy scout. His talents extended to vegetable gardening, where he found fulfillment tending to his plants and enjoying the fruits of his labor.

Dave is survived by his children Justin Dutton and Dena (Bill) Meinhart, grandchildren, Elaya and Beckham Meinhart, siblings, Dale Dutton and Idelphia Hughes, former spouse, Victoria Dutton as well as his dogs, Shadow and Pepper. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Dutton, sister, Helen Price and his favorite dog Lexie. Each of his family members—and those whose lives he touched through friendship and camaraderie—will cherish his memory and honor his legacy.

Visitation for Dave will be held on August 25, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Timson & Melroy Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Caledonia Cemetery with a private family graveside servce.

Dave's life was defined by laughter, dedication, and a steadfast devotion to those he loved. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten, living on in the countless memories shared by all who knew him.

The Timson & Melroy Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Dave Dutton.
