Jo Ann (Lyon) Sherer,age 87, of Caledonia, Ohio passed into eternity on April 12, 2026. She was welcomed by her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, whom she served faithfully. Jo was born in Marion Ohio on October 10, 1938. She was the daughter of the late William and Leatha (Bratton) Lyon. She graduated from Caledonia High School Class of 1956. Immediately upon graduation, Jo began training to become a Registered Nurse at Mount Carmel School of Nursing. On April 12, 1958 Jo eloped with her high school sweetheart, Don Sherer. As a student nurse, Jo was not supposed to be married however, her fiance was in the Air Force and heading for an 18 month deployment at the Ashiya AFB in Japan so they chose to go ahead and make their commitment to each other by secretly marrying. Theirs was an epic love story and she passed away on what would have been their 68th wedding anniversary, just 75 days after him. Jo graduated with her degree in 1959. She worked as a nurse all over the U.S.; Sioux Falls SD, Grayson, KY , Ada, Ohio, Toledo, Ohio, Worthington, Ohio and in Marion, Ohio. While in Marion she worked as a shop nurse at Tecumseh, a surgical nurse for Dr Roger Altoff, she held positions in the Marion General Hospital in ER, ICU, Mental Health, finally retiring from Home Health in 1998. In the community, she was the resident country Dr., helping families deal with minor issues like diabetes meds/shots and even major ones - delivering a neighbor's baby!
Jo worked tirelessly in the churches she served alongside her husband. She was a beautiful singer and enjoyed singing specials as well as being in various choirs. Jo played the piano and organ at Caledonia Church of Christ and Kirkpatrick Church of Christ for many years. She served on Mission Committees, even acting as the forwarding agent alongside Don, for the Bill Brant family in Zambia, Africa for many years. Jo led Bible studies and played the piano at nursing homes for services. Jo was an avid baker and took countless meals to many families in the community and church.
Jo will be greatly missed by her children, Kristin (Gene) Dyer, Timothy (Kathryn) Sherer, and Thaddeus (Jennifer) Sherer; grandchildren, Keith (Shauna) Dyer, Krystal (Matt) Vogel, Jessica (Stephen) Root, Joshua Sherer, Alexandra (Tyler) Coll, Timothy Sherer Jr, Julianna Sherer, Caleb Lynch and Grace Sherer; Great grandchildren, Kaden Vogel, Madison Dyer, Bryden Groves, Adeline Dyer, Jorden Vogel, and Julius Root.
Jo is preceded in death by her husband Don, her sister, Marilyn Lyon and her brothers Wayne Weir and John Weir. Friends and family are invited to celebrate the life of Jo on Sunday, April 19 at the Kirkpatrick Church of Christ. Calling hours are from 1-3. The funeral service will be held immediately following calling hours at the Kirkpatrick Church Family Life Center with Mike Sayer officiating. Interment in Caledonia Cemetery Monday, April 20 at 11am.

We also want to thank The Wyndmoor of Marion for providing a wonderful home environment for mom and dad’s final years. Every staff member is dearly loved and is considered family!
