Larry D Brooks, age 89, of Edison, Ohio, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2026, at Marion General Hospital with his family by his side. Born on August 13, 1937, in Marion, Ohio, as the son of the late William and Barbara (Wait) Brooks. A proud graduate of Caledonia High School Class of 1955. Larry married Barbara "Bobbi" Randles in Virginia on October 31, 1980. Bobbi preceded him in death March 31, 2018. Larry would go on to dedicate over two decades of his career to the Erie Lackawanna Railroad, where he worked diligently as an engineer. His commitment extended beyond the railroad, as he also contributed to the vital snow removal efforts in both Lusk, Wyoming and Mt. Gilead, Ohio. His entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly when he founded Dugout Pizza in Caledonia, Ohio, a local establishment fondly remembered by many.

Larry was a man of strong will and determination, often described as stubborn but in the truest sense of steadfast and unwavering. He was an avid outdoorsman who found great joy in deer hunting and fishing in Wyoming. Larry also enjoyed being outdoors here in Ohio, and yes, he did see a bear and an all white deer (IYKYK). His Sundays were often spent on leisurely drives, observing the neighboring crops — a pastime he cherished deeply. Larry was also known for his social nature, enjoying time at Bob Evans and the Edison Depot, engaging with friends and community members. His evenings frequently included watching Westerns on television and rooting for Ohio State University football.

He was a proud member of the Oliver Lodge #447 F & AM and the Moose Lodge #889, reflecting his strong connection to fraternal organizations. He also attended the Caledonia Memorial Methodist Church many years ago. Additionally, he was a member of the NRA, underscoring his passion for the outdoors and hunting.

Larry leaves behind his son, Larry (Diana) Brooks Jr., daughter, Lu Ann (Regan) Brooks Tully, sisters, Barbara (Jerry) Gorby, Becky (Richard) Barlow, and Betty Tyo, He was a devoted grandfather to Brittany, Autumn, and Remington, and a great-grandfather to Quinn, Marlowe, Braddy, Charlie, and Landry and will be missed by his "furkid" Toby. His family meant the world to him, and his legacy will live on through their memories and stories.

A visitation for Larry will be held at the Timson & Melroy Funeral Home on May 22nd from 12P.M. to 1:00P.M., with a Masonic service and funeral service to follow starting at 1:00P.M.. Pastor Terry Burkhardt will be officiating. Graveside service will take place in Caledonia Cemetery following the service.

Larry will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his work, his love of family and community, and his passion for the simpler pleasures of life. His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him. May he rest in peace.

The Timson & Melroy Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Larry Brooks.
