Larry Edwin Clarkson Sr., age 83, a dedicated community member, veteran, and family man, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026. Born on May 31, 1942, in Marion, Ohio, as the son of the late James and Sylvia (Dodrill) Clarkson. Larry lived a life marked by hard work, devotion to his family, and service to his country and community. Larry married Bonnie Jeffries January 6th, 2013 In Vinton Cty and she survives him at home.
Larry’s career was distinguished by his commitment and expertise. He served 30 years at Tecumseh and subsequently retired after a notable 30-year tenure at General Motors, where he worked as a machine repair technician. His professional life was characterized by a strong work ethic, embodying the spirit of a true "workaholic." Always working 2-3 jobs at a time. Larry also served as a Deputy Sheriff in Wyandot County, reflecting his enduring dedication to law enforcement and public safety.
A proud Vietnam veteran, Larry served honorably in the Army, and his service was an integral part of his identity. His membership in esteemed organizations such as the American Legion Post #83, UAW Local #913, Nevada Lodge #343 F & AM, and the Northwestern Volunteer Firemen's Association further demonstrated his commitment to service and fraternal bonds.
Larry was known to never meet a stranger, a testament to his warm and approachable nature. He was a man who loved deeply: his family, riding Harleys, golfing and bowling. Fishing at Bucyrus Reservoir with his children, where he was the official "bait and touch the fish person", as the girls refused to do either of them. As a shade tree mechanic, he enjoyed working on cars, applying his skill and passion even outside of work. Larry cherished his family above all, never missing a local family event and making frequent visits to see his loved ones in Florida.
He is survived by his loving children: Larry (Barbara) Clarkson Jr., Sherry Young, Brenda (William) Russell, Rashawna (Rob Foreman) Perry, and his stepson Robert Keckler; his sisters Sandra (Dave) Stiger, Karen McGinnis, and Cheryl (Bill) Sundstrom; grandchildren Samantha (Cameron), Tyler, Alyssa (Brice), Marcus, Aaron (Autumn), and Paige; and great-grandchildren Miah, Isabelle, Elora, Zachary, and Stephen. Larry is preceded in death by his wife of 42 years Patricia (Staup) Clarkson, his sons: Robbie Perry and Mike Keckler, and daughter Angela Clarkson.
Services to honor Larry will be held on May 7, 2026, beginning with a visitation from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Timson & Melroy Funeral Home. Memorial service will follow at 1:00 PM with Stephen and Linda Pruett officiating. Burial to follow in Caledonia Cemetery where military honors will take place.
