David M. Thompson age 69 of Caledonia passed away Saturday evening May 9th in Marion General Hospital. David was born January 31st, 1946 in Marion as the son of the late Chester & Lauretta (Redman) Thompson. He was a graduate of River Valley High School and was retired from Whirlpool Corporation after 39 years employment. David was a Deacon in the Mt. Vernon Ave Church of Christ where he considered everyone his brother and sister. He enjoyed many happy hours visiting the "Shut-ins". David influenced many children through his coaching football, basketball , softball & baseball at River Valley and in other children's sports leagues. He was also a licensed referee and was involved in that activity throughout Marion County for many years. He loved fishing in any hole with water in it and he collected baseball cards all his life. He loved Notre Dame Football, The Browns and the Indians, but he loved nothing better than watching his children or grandchildren perform in a sporting activity or on a stage in a school or church program. On January 21st, 1966 David married the former Marjorie Lucas and they shared 49 years of happiness together. He also was a great "Dad" to his daughter Lynn Thompson of Cardington, his son's and daughters-in-law, Doug & Jen Thompson of Marion and Rick & Amber Thompson of Caledonia. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren; Sophia Thompson, Kayla Edington, Brittany Edington, Kayla Whitely, Austin Whitely, Erica Chatfield, Mike Chatfield and great grandson Destler Chatfield. David was preceded in death by his sister Virginia Elwood. Funeral services for David Thompson will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday May 14th 2015 in the Mt. Vernon Ave Church of Christ with Jeff Bush officiating. Interment will follow the service in Caledonia Cemetery. Friends may call at the Mt. Vernon Ave Church of Christ on Wednesday where the family will receive them from 4 - 8. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Vernon Ave Church of Christ or 1st Consolidated Fire Department.
