Don Robert Sherer, age 87, of Caledonia, Ohio passed into eternity on January 28th, 2026. He was welcomed by his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, who he served faithfully. Don was born in Marion, Ohio On February 3rd, 1938 as the son of the late Wilfred (Bud) and Lola (Rorick) Sherer. He graduated from Caledonia High School class of 1956. On September 5, 1956 he joined the Air Force and trained as a jet mechanic. Don eloped with his high school sweetheart, Jo Lyon at the tender age of 20. Jo was studying to be an RN at the Mt. Carmel School of Nursing and she was not allowed to be married while in school. He was looking at spending a year and a half stationed at Ashyia AFB in Japan so they were secretly married prior to his deployment. They celebrated 67 years of marriage and Jo survives him. After the Air Force, Don studied to become a teacher, attending Kentucky Christian College and graduating from Ohio Northern University in 1966. Don began his teaching career in Toledo. He spent the majority of his years teaching Industrial Arts and Mechanical Drawing at Pleasant, finally retiring from Marion Harding in 1992.
Don was an elder at Caledonia Church of Christ and later Kirkpatrick Church of Christ. He also served as a Scott Township Trustee for many years. he was a member and past president of Marion County Retired Teachers, Caledonia High School Alumni member and past president. Don taught adult and youth Sunday school classes, led youth Bible Bowl teams, and used his talents as a woodworker for the Lord. Many churches, children's homes, parsonages and classrooms have something he has made, whether it was cabinets, lofts or bookcases. As well as beautiful works such as handmade pens, vases, chests and so much more. Everything was etched with Proverbs 3:5-6, which were words he lived by.
Don will be greatly missed by his children, Kristin (Gene) Dyer, Timothy (Kathryn) Sherer, and Thaddeus (Jennifer) Sherer; grandchildren, Keith (Shauna), Krystal (Matt), Jessica (Steven), Joshua, Alexandra (Tyler), Timothy Jr., Julianna, Caleb, and Grace, great grandchildren, Kaden, Madison, Bryden, Adeline, Jorden and Julius. Don is preceded in death by his sister Nancy Whiteamire. Visitation for Don will be February 1st from 1:00-3:00 P.M. at the Kirpatrick Church of Christ. Funeral service will follow at 3:00P.M. with Mike Sayre officiating. Interment will be in Caledonia Cemetery.
