Donald "Don" Alan Powers

Donald “Don” Alan Powers, passed away on September 13, 2026, at Riverside Hospital, one day after his 73rd birthday. Born on September 12, 1953 in Marion, Ohio, as the son of the late Jack and Jean (Herbst) Powers. Don lived a life defined by hard work, practical skill, and the simple pleasures he enjoyed most.

A 1972 graduate of River Valley, Don built a life around work, determination, and the ability to do just about anything he set his mind to. He worked as a Line Manager at Tecumseh for 10 years, later became the owner of General Sales Drive thru and store for more than 20 years, and also worked as a building contractor for his rental properties and other homes. He was, in every sense, a workaholic and a true “Jack of all Trades,” always busy and always finding the next task, repair, or project that needed his attention.

Don’s interests reflected both his love of craftsmanship and his enjoyment of life. He loved attending car shows with his 1957 Chevy truck and 1956 Oldsmobile, and he traveled through all but 13 states in his Chevy truck. He enjoyed cruising the countryside in that old truck, taking in the road and the freedom it offered. He was always working on a project and spent countless hours on house renovations for family members, friends, and his rentals. Don also loved OSU football, looked forward to hosting family holiday gatherings, and was known to enjoy his Miller Lite. Don was also on the Board of Public Affairs in Caledonia for several years.

Above all, Don will be remembered by his family. He is survived by his sons, Luke (Mandy) Powers, Levi (Kristi) Powers and James (Cassi) Garrison, brother, Jason (Claire) Powers, sisters, Jodi (Greg) Harville, Kathy (Mike) Newell and Jackie Davis as well as his best friend and partner, Debbie Foulks. In them, and in the family gatherings he loved to host, his memory will continue to be carried forward with warmth, laughter, and gratitude. Don is preceded in death by his wife, Jeannine Cope.

Calling hours for Don will be Thursday, September 17th from, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Timson & Melroy Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held there on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Amy Barr officiating.

Don will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his capable hands, his love of old vehicles and open roads, and the way he made himself useful to the people around him. His life was one of steady effort, enduring interests, and devotion to family. He will be deeply missed.
