Donald Earl McCray Sr. Age 84, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning June 25th in Morrow County Hospital, Mt. Gilead following a short illness. Don was born on March 24th 1924 in Nelsonville, Ohio the son of the late Louis and Isa (Williams) McCray. On July 22, 1942 he married the love of his life, Marguerite Barnhart and she survives him. In 1943 Donald entered the U. S. Army and participated in the D-Day Invasion on Omaha Beach and later took part in the Battle of the Bulge. He was the recipient of a campaign medal with 5 Bronze Stars.
In 1955 Donald & Marguerite moved their family from Carbon Hill, Ohio to Iberia where they have made a home and many friends. Don retired from John Morely Builders in Lexington, OH, as a carpenter. Donald& Marguerite were blessed with five children, Donald E. (Janice) McCray Jr of Martel, Mrs Karen (Bill) Barber of Tallahassee, FL, Mrs. Sandra (Sam) Grimm of Ft. Wayne, IN, Michael McCray of Galion and Charles McCray of Sierra Vista, AZ. Grandchildren; Mrs. Shellie (Scott) Shirk, Mrs. Sonya (carter) Vaverek, Mrs. Michelle (Michael) Klien,Eric McCray and Chad Grimm. Great Grandchildren; Caroline, Emily and Connor Vaverek, Alexa, Leo and Rex Klein. He is also survived by his sister Mrs. Esther Tremein of Canton, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his grandson Kelly McCray, three sisters and two brothers. Funeral Services for Donald McCray Sr. Will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday morning June 28th, 2008 at the Timson Allen & Melroy Funeral Home in Caledonia with Pastor Randy Kiel officiating. Interment will follow in Iberia Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2 - 4, 6 - 8. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Iberia Fire Department.
