Doris Mae Freeman, age 87, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on January 30, 2026, at her residence surrounded by her family. Born on October 10, 1938, in Athens, Ohio, as the daughter of the late Emmett and Elda (McClurg) Foreman. She graduated from Harding High School, class of 1956 and later studied accounting at Marion Technical College. Doris married Alfred "Al" Freeman October 28, 1956 and he preceded her in death July 23, 2012.
Doris enjoyed a distinguished career in accounting, serving at LK Restaurants & Motels and the Lodgekeeper Group for over 30 years. Her professional life was characterized by her meticulous nature and unwavering dedication, which earned her the respect and gratitude of many colleagues. When she retired, Doris turned her love of baking into a full-time hobby. Known as the "Cookie Lady" at the Caledonia Memorial Methodist Church, she baked for every special occasion and event. Church attendance was always the highest on cookie days. She was also known for her wonderful church dinners and fellowship meals, where she oversaw the kitchen. No one ever left hungry on their own accord and no one left without a "to go" bag.
A devoted mother, Doris was never one to miss an event or function involving her children and later her grandchildren. She made it her mission to give her daughters every chance to participate in activities that interested them. She took great joy in attending the events of her children and grandchildren. Doris never missed a school event, band concert, half time show, or dance recital. She even traveled across the country to attend Grand Parent’s Day events with her grandchildren.
In addition to her role as a mother, Doris enjoyed a variety of hobbies and interests. She was an avid reader, finding comfort and joy in the pages of countless books. Traveling was also a passion of hers, particularly visits to the National Parks, with Cripple Creek being one of her favorite destinations. After her husband Al's passing, she embarked on a cross-country trip, where she got to see a bear at Yellowstone, one of her fondest memories. Doris enjoyed shopping and had a love for music, especially country, southern gospel. Doris attended many concerts of Vince Gill and The Gaithers , who were among her favorite artists and even made a stop at The Grand Ole Opry.
Doris was also a longstanding member of the Caledonia Memorial Methodist Church, where she served for nearly 70 years. Furthermore, she was a member of the Rebekah Lodge years ago, contributing her time and effort to help others.
Doris is survived by her daughters, Melody Freeman, Melissa (Scott) Morton and Susan Freeman, sister, Beverly Woodard, sister-in-law Jane Foreman, granddaughter Ainsley Morton, great grandson Tristan Morton, Tristan's mother, Cherry Olivar and many precious nieces and nephews. Living a long and fulfilling life, Doris endured the loss of many family members. She is preceded in death by her infant son, grandson Matthew Morton, brothers, Earl and Edward Foreman, sister-in-law, Phyllis Foreman, brother-in-law, Jerry Woodard, niece Kathy Hoffman and nephew David Foreman.
The visitation for Doris Mae Freeman will be held on February 7, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, at the Caledonia Memorial Methodist Church, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 AM with Pastor John Carpenter officiating. internment will be in Caledonia Cemetery. Family, friends, and all who knew her are invited to celebrate her life.
