Mr. Kenneth Dean Longacre, a former long time resident of Marion, passed away at age 87 on Monday, June 18th, at Southland Nursing Center in Peachtree City, Georgia. He was born in Milford Center, Ohio to Edward and Maude Longacre on November 24, 1924. He served in the South Pacific in World War II in the Army's 11th Airborne Division as a member of the medical corps. He married Elsie Ruth Armbruster on April 6, 1947. She preceded him in death on January 14th, 2003. He graduated from Ohio State University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Agriculture in 1950. Mr. Longacre worked as a quality control engineer at Whirlpool Corporation for over 25 years. He was an exceptional wood craftsman and all around handyman. He thoroughly enjoyed playing his harmonica and was a crosswords aficionado. Mr. Longacre will be fondly remembered by his family and friends for his pleasant disposition, his quick whit, and his kind and gentle spirit.
Mr. Longacre is survived by a daughter Deanna McAteer of Peachtree City, GA and two sons, Randy Longacre of Tucson, AZ and Alan Longacre of Marion. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Shawn McAteer, Mindy Habelt, Eliot Longacre, Janet Smith, Aaron Longacre, and Courtney Longacre. He was also blessed with five great grandchildren, Jordan and Aby Habelt, Ethan and Emily Longacre, and Anabelle Smith. He was preceded in death by his dear wife Elsie and his infant son John.
Visitation will be at Timson-Allen & Melroy Funeral Home in Caledonia from 9:30 - 10:30 on Friday, June 22nd, followed by a 11:00 Graveside service in Caledonia Cemetery.
