Kenneth Lyle Morton, age 89, passed away on May 6, 2024, at his residence in Delaware, Ohio. Kenneth was born on January 1, 1935 in Climax, Ohio. He was the second born child of Salo Morton and Marjorie Makeever Morton. Kenneth met and married the girl who lived across the road from him by offering her a seat next to him on the school bus. (Elaine Lee Furniss, deceased in 2021) They were married on May 8, 1955. Kenneth was in the U.S.Navy, and Elaine was able to follow him to the Philippines, where they lived for the first couple years of their married life. After returning to Ohio, they had three children, Kelly Lee Harris (Robert) of Delaware, Ohio, Scott Michael Morton (Melissa), of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Melanie Jane Serpa (Barry) of Westerville, Ohio. They were blessed to have seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Kenneth had one brother, Harold Morton, that preceded him in death. After his discharge from the U. S. Navy, Kenneth began working for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad. He continued with this job as he started a second career building custom homes in the Marion, Ohio area. After retiring, Kenneth and Elaine enjoyed traveling in their RV and exploring the US. But, most of all, Kenneth enjoyed being with his family in addition to volunteering his time and talents helping others in need. He will be missed by his children with whom he provided quick wit and wisdom while helping them with a variety of projects. A graveside service will be held on May 13, 2023, at the Caledonia Cemetery, at 1:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to “Habitat for Humanity of Delaware and Union Counties, 305 Curtis Street, Delaware, Ohio 43015 ” which helps with the need for affordable housing.
