Lela F Masters

November 3, 1928 — July 17, 2025

Gulf Breeze, FL

Lela F. Masters, a cherished mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025, in Gulf Breeze, Florida, at the age of 96. Born on November 3, 1928, in Marion, Ohio, as the daughter of the late Clyde and Ada (Blake) Watkins. Lela's early years were shaped by her education, graduating from Harding High School in the class of 1947.

Lela devoted many years of her life to her career as a realtor for Century 21, where her dedication and passion for helping others find their homes reflected her warm and giving nature. Outside of her professional life, Lela was an active member of the Gulf Breeze Methodist Church, where she shared her love for music by singing in the choir. Her spirit of community service was evident through her long-standing involvement with the Interfaith volunteers, where she touched many lives with her compassion and kindness.

Lela enjoyed engaging in various hobbies and interests that enriched her life and those around her. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Society, where friendships blossomed. Her love for travel allowed her to explore new places while creating lasting memories. Lela had an insatiable appetite for mystery novels and found joy in playing games, particularly enjoying the thrill of rummy, where she was known as a vicious player by her grandchildren. She also relished the simple pleasures of life, like walking along the picturesque shores of Pensacola Beach and spending quality time with her friends. Cooking and nurturing her love for flowers added warmth and beauty to her home.

Lela is survived by her son, Richard (Tina) Weir; her sister, Kathryn (Harley) Johnson; and her cherished grandchildren, Matthew, Alicia, and Megan. The legacy of love continues with her great-grandchildren, Tarynn, Nora, Charlotte, Levi, Jaxson, and Ellie, who will carry her memory forward.

She was preceded in death by her son, Gregory Weir, and her brothers, Earl Watkins, John Slack, Robert Slack, Gene Slack, and Roger Slack.

Lela's remarkable life was characterized by unwavering love for her family, generosity towards her friends, and a resilient spirit that inspired many. She will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A graveside service will be scheduled at a later date while we await her arrival from Florida. Update to follow.
