Marjorie "Margie" Jean Worcester, a cherished figure in her community and a beloved matriarch of her family, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on July 1, 1939, in Marion, Ohio, as the daughter of the late William and Linna Irey. She married Vernon "Butch" Worcester May 5th, 1977 in Tennessee and he preceded her death July 26th, 2020. Margie lived a life filled with passion, laughter, and a spirit of adventure.
Margie's early years were marked by her involvement in the exhilarating world of powderpuff dirt track racing, where her enthusiasm behind the wheel made her a favorite among fans. Her love for music led her to sing with the White Lightning Express, a testament to her vibrant personality and zest for life. Margie was also a devoted member of the American Legion Post 401 Women's Auxiliary, which was later renamed to the Worcester Post in honor of her late husband, a clear indication of her loyalty and dedication to her family and community.
An enthusiastic sunbather, Margie delighted in enjoying the warmth of the sun, although she has often been quoted as loathing trips to East Harbor. Her love for karaoke brought joy not only to herself but to those fortunate enough to share in her energetic performances. Margie had a passion for mowing her lawn and dining out, activities that reflected her desire to enjoy life's simple pleasures. Her family will fondly remember her as someone with a lead foot, known for her spirited driving and adventurous spirit. She relished attending "jam sessions" alongside Sharon and Bill, creating lasting memories filled with music.
Margie is survived by her loving sons, William (Sharon), Dave and Danny (Lynn) Johnson, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is also mourned by her siblings, Bud Irey, Carol Irey, and Caroline Irey, who will carry her memory forward. Margie was preceded in death by her son, Steve Detwiler.
