Martha Joan Keeran

Martha Joan Keeran, age 84, lovingly known as Joan, passed away on September 22, 2026, at Kingston of Marion. Born in Marion, Ohio on September 30, 1941, as the daughter of the late Forest Hipsher and Rita Grace Caldwell. Joan was a member of the Caledonia High School Class of 1959. She married the love of her life Paul Keeran in N. Wilkesboro, North Carolina March 20, 1961 and he survives her at home. Throughout her life, she found joy in faith, family, music, and the simple pleasures that made a home and community feel warm and welcoming. Joan was happy being a homemaker and taking care of her family.

Joan was a member of the Mt. Vernon Avenue Church of Christ, where she enjoyed playing the piano and organ and singing in the church choir, sharing her love of music as part of her life of faith. She especially loved Gospel music, with the Gaithers holding a special place among her favorites. Joan enjoyed camping, especially trips to Round Lake in Loudonville, where time spent outdoors brought her happiness. Her many interests included flower gardening, antiques, and collectibles, and she worked with Bill’s Antiques and Collectibles as a hobby. Joan also had an unknown entrepreneurial spirit. Her son Brian in his younger years, had a nitecrawler business. She got up very early to "collect" every morning, only the best that she could find. She also made sure she got a commission for her work, unbeknownst to Brian. Joan was a very girly, girly girl and to be out in the backyard crawling around in the dirt searching for nitecrawlers will forever be a cherished memory. Joan also made her family a priority, faithfully attending her children’s school events and activities when they were younger.

Above all, Joan loved her family and cherished her grandchildren. Her love was shown not only in what she enjoyed, but in the steady presence she gave to those closest to her. Joan is survived by her children, Brian, Aaron and Jennifer Keeran, brother, Roy (Maggie) Mason, grandchildren, Dalton, Adrian, Landon, Cory, Taylor and Riley and great grandchild, Ellie. Joan is preceded in death by her sister, Janice Keirns, and nephew Darrin Keirns. 

Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation on Friday, September 25, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Timson & Melroy Funeral Home.  A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. at the Caledonia Church of Christ. Interment will be in Caledonia Cemetery.

Joan will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her faith, her love of church music, and the joy she found in the people and pastimes she held dear. Her memory will remain a blessing to those who knew and loved her.
