Mary I. Sickmiller, age 93 of the Marion County area, entered into eternal peace SundayJuly 22nd, 2012 at the DeWolfe House in Marion after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Mary was born in Hardin County on March 14th, 1919 as the daughter of the late Carl & Anna (Stroud) Grappy. On March 15th, 1940 she married Ralph B. Sickmiller. Ralph passed away on February 16th, 2008. Mary was a 1937 graduate of LaRue High School. Mary was a lady who put happiness and joy into every endeavor she undertook. She was an active member of the New Winchester and Caledonia United Methodist Churches and was involved in the Sunday School program and United Methodist Women's Society. She will long be remembered for her abilities as a cook and baker. Somehow she found the time to perfect the art of crocheting and making afghans. Mary worked with Ralph on their farm raising livestock, crops and their sons Jack and David. In the early 1970's the family moved to Caledonia where Ralph and Mary gained a wide reputation for their furniture refinishing and restoration. In 1989 they relocated to Marion to be closer to their family. Mary will be missed by her children whom she dearly loved, David & Jean Sickmilller of Marion, Grandchildren Matt & Kristen Sickmiller of Falls Church, Va, Brent & Joy Sickmiller of Marion. Great Grandchildren Adalynne Rebecca, Evan Matthew and Levi Joseph. She also leaves behind her sister Anna May Keller of Marion.
Mary was preceded in death by three sisters and her son Jack in 1971.
Funeral Services for Mary will be held on Monday July 30th, 2012 at 11:00 at the Timson Allen & Melroy Funeral Home in Caledonia with Rev. Dr. O. French Ball officiating. Interment followed in Caledonia Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 until 5:00. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Caledonia Memorial United Methodist Church.
